Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has any advice about a pregnant cat. A woman i know told me on Monday that the people who lived across the road from her moved a couple of months ago and dumped thire cat in the bush behind her house and she has seen it a few times since. That night we had a bad storm and all i could do was worry about this cat so Tuesay i went looking for it with this woman and found it laying in the bush very pregnant i contacted the rspca but was told it would most likely be put down as they have so many. So i took her home now does any one know what to look for when it is going to have kittens. I love cats and this little thing has had such a bad time i just want to look after her. I have since found out from a the next door neighbour of the woman who dumped her that it is about 4 years old and this is the forth time it has had kittens the other times they were thrown in a bucket also she said the cat was never allowed in the house and was only thrown scraps to eat. I can not stand cruely to animals of any kind. So this cat has not looked after kittens before. She is such a lovely cat although she has not ventured out of my bathroom much. Any advice would be much appreciated. My beautiful cat died five years ago she was 18 and i never thought i could have another cat but along came this. My cat was desexed before it was old enought to have kittens so this is new to me. Thankyou.

Sounds like you came around at the right time. Leave her in the bathroom. Give her a box that is in-closed in but to where she can get in and out. Layer it with plenty of old blanket. Keep her feed and plenty of water....she should do the rest. Keep an eye on her. Watch for her to possibly eat the babies or not pay attention to them. You may have to put them in front of her so that she will take care of them. If not, you will need to do it. Watch for worms, in the stools of mama cat. After the birth and all call the Doctor to see when you can get her in to be checked. It will coast, but maybe being a stray they can give you a discount if not do it for free. Call the SPCA again and see if you would keep them and give them good homes if they would foot the bill of having them spayed and neutered. Poor Kittie.....she deserves more than what others have done to her. I would turn the old bag in for the cruelty......
Well i have had her a week and still no babies she is so huge it is a wonder she can move but she does. I have her box and everything in the bathroom and left the door closed for the first few days till she was used to the place but now i leave it open. She has a favourite place on my bed under the fan she is not silly it is hot here at the moment. I think she is just enjoying having a home i have a little dog (Buffy ) who i was worried would not get on with her but she is much bigger than him and he does not frighten her. I have found homes for two kittens so far a friend of mine is going to have one and so is my son when the kittens are weaned i will get her desexed and she can spend the rest of her days with me every animal deserves to have someone to love them and she has wormed a way into my heart very quickly i have called her Lola. When she has her kittens i will put a picture on here so you can see them if i can work out how to do it.
You are wonderful to do all this. I am not a cat lover, but would never be able to not care for this poor little thing. Sorry that I can not help you will the care, I also would not have a clue of what to do.
Let us know what happens.
I bet the kittens will be soooo cute.
Glad you don't live by me, I maybe tempted to take one.after you post the pictures. LOL
I love animals, but I'm more of a dog person. We always had a cat when I was a kid.
Hi Sue i am also more a dog person i have always had dogs i only have one now as we lost our other two 1-2 years ago of old age and i only have my baby left he is 10 years old. He wants to be friends with Lola but she only hisses at him i am sure with time they will get on. She is sitting next to me at the moment she is so huge surely she will have them soon. My sister and i go to Hong Kong on Friday so my husband is getting very worried he is hoping if she does not have them by Friday she might wait untill i get back thats not going to happen. Luckily my Daughter lives across the road so she will be in a few times a day. Could you tell me how i can put pictures in and where i put them i cant seem to work it out.
I just love reading about Lola. I am an animal lover and have had cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, snakes (the kids did that one), gerbils, etc. I too lost my dog March of 2008. We also lost one of our cats later in the same year. We have Kramer the Kat, who was a brother to the other cat (Snoopy). He is 14. I am so happy that Lola has found a loving home. Just because animals can't talk doesn't mean they don't know what's going on. I think that once Lola settles in completely, she probably won't want to go outside too much. Has she seen a vet yet? It would be a good idea to be sure the pregnancy is without complications. I know it can cost you, but once these guys become a part of your home you are looking at a family member and would never want to see them in need. Please keep us posted. I hope the pictures come up soon.
Hi June i could not agree more my animals are a part of my family you take on an animal and that is a commitment for the whole of that animals iife. So many people think it is only an animal and it does not matter i have seen so many cruelty cases over the years. I bet the person who owned Lola has not given another thought about her and her feelings. I am going on holiday on Friday so i have Lola booked into the vet on Thursday for a check up the vet said she can't be vacinated while she is pregnant but i will just make sure everything is ok with her before i go i wormed her when i got her and gave her a good bath which she was pretty good about she did not look real good when i found her but she looks really beautiful now. She has strange markings on her maybe the vet will have an idea on what breed of cat she is. Losing two animals in the one year must of been very hard on you i know with me i cried all the time at the slightest think animals have a way of getting into your heart and staying there.
Mike (admin) called this morning. His finance Wendi's cat got out and was hit by a car last night. Her name was Midnight and was 10 years old.
Wendi we send our best, and hope you are doing well.
I am so sorry Wendi that you have lost Midnight i know what it is like to lose a much loved pet.
I am so glad to hear you say the word commitment because it is just that. I'm really glad that Lola found you. All three of my pets are/were rescued animals and they turned out to be the best of the best. I really bonded with Angel my dog. He was dropped right out of heaven into my yard and we were together 13 years. I still grieve for him. He was really mine more than anyone else in the family because I found him and he knew it.
The two cats were born to a feral cat behind some stores along with two others. The mother abandoned them when they were two weeks old and the pet shop owner in that mall took them home and fed them with an eyedropper. She had all kinds of animals so the cats were used to dogs, birds, etc. Kramer and Angel were the closest to each other. Snoopy just liked to hang with them.
Your cats are going to be fine. I just know they are. I know you have Lola for a special reason and someday you will too.
Sue, Mike and Wendy I am so sorry that Midnight was hit by a car. I know the heartbreak of losing a beloved pet.
You sound like me it would not feel right if there were no pets in my home. Well i took Lola to the vet today and got a clean bill of health the vet said she was in good health considering her life. He said the kittens could come any time she is so big i thought she would have them by now. Can't rush nature i suppose, my Grandchildren have named two of them already rapunzel and batman and they are not born yet a bit diffrent i thought.
....to hear aboout Wendi's cat. It's always a loss when we loose one in the family.
Buffy, keep an eye on Lola. Because of being in such poor health, she may not be able to birth the Kittens. She may need help......my in laws raise and breed Bermans........they have seen it all.........just keep tabs on her. She may even birth them on your bed. Lay something down that can be messed and washed up. Keep us informed........
Hi Buffy, I'm so glad you took her to the vet. It amazes me that she is in such good shape. Shows you what a little determination can get you through. Did the vet have any idea of how many kittens there are? Please keep me posted. I love the names of two of the kittens. You mentioned she's had other litters, so I imagine there will be more than two in this litter.
You're so busy mothering the mother cat, have you had any time to quilt? I'm working on a Nancy Davis-Murty quilt called Tea Time. It is a six month class and I'm just loving it. You make the center and then just keep adding to it until the quilt is done. That works for me. When you have to match seams to do rows for the top of the quilt it gets tedious and sometimes the seams don't want to match up exactly. Do I sound like a perfectionist????
Hi June i got back on Sunday from Hong Kong i went with my sister. I got global tracking on my phone because my husband was worried what to do every day i phoned at least once but nothing i just do not know when she is going to part with them. My daughter came twice a day to check on her and give her a bit of attention as my husband works late and i did not want her being lonely. When i found her she was so big i thought she would have them straight away. I took her to the vet on Tuesday to make sure she was ok and he said she is in great condition and they will come when they are ready i keep checking on her all throught the night every night. I put her in the bathroom when i go to bed so i know where she is. She has settled in now as part of the family and spends her days either on my bed or on the lounge even at her size she manages to jump up. It did not take her long at all to get used to a diffrent life she purrs all the time and is always folliowing me around. I have not had much time lately to do any quilting i am going to make a nine patch quilt next the one where you sew the nine together and then cut them into four i have got as far as cutting all my 5in pink squares out and have embroidered butterflies onto twelve 5in squares which i will scatter around it looks great in my mind i just hope it looks as good when i make it. I am also a perfectionist i like every thing to match up. The quilt you are making sound interesting i hope to get onto mine soon. I will let you know as soon as the kittens are born and i will try to put a photo on here if i can work it out.
I have been waiting to hear the happy news, and that all is well with the mom cat.
No kittens yet i cant believe it i thought for sure they would have been here long ago now i am starting to wonder with her being a small cat and being so huge what got to her when she was living in the bush was it a really big cat only time will tell i suppose.
Hi Sue, I do not know what has hapened to my last two posts they were on here but are now gone. Lola finally had her kittens she had five they all came very quckly and they are just beautiful. She has three girls and two boys i have found good homes for three only two to go. I have finally worked out how to use the blog so i will put some pictures on there also i will put my two quilts on in the gallery. I have seen such beautiful guilts on here that people have made i hope mine dont look too bad.
How long were you there? Why did you go, work, fun or to see something special? Fabric, did you get any and what is it like. So many questions, please tell us all about it.
Hi Buffy, poor Lola. She probably can't wait to have those kittens if she's that big. I hope she has them soon. Sounds like it's going to be a big litter. I'm glad she's settled in for you. She knows a good thing when she sees it. Keep me posted. Can I be Aunt June to the kittens?
So Hong Kong, huh? How lucky for you. Did you have a great time and get lots of great pictures? You'll have to tell me all about it.
I haven't sewed for the past couple of weeks. Too busy. My youngest son got married the end of September. The following week we left for Washington, DC and that's where we are now. Can't wait for things to settle down.
It was great hearing from you. Keep in touch.
I sent a message to you yesturday and it was on here but now it has gone i also sent you a private message i hope you got that. Lola has five beautiful kittens My Grandchildren just cant wait untill they are old enough to play with. They are not allowed to touch them yet, Lola just seems to be so much in love with them i am glad she has this i was worried if she would be a good mother but i shouldnt have worried. She can have them for eight weeks and then she will be desexed. I have finally got all my 5in squares cut out but now to find the time to do some sewing things just seem to be so buzy at the moment and christmas is just around the corner so much i want to get done before then.
Hi Sandra, I received your private email tonite and responded but I don't know if it went through or not because it sent me to a strange place that said access denied. When I went back to check on it to see if it went through, it had your picture on it and said to block you. I'll contact Admin to see how to fix this. I feel badly because I don't want you to think I don't want to talk to you, I do, I do, really. Could you let me know if you got the private e-mail?
Hi June i did not get an email from you. Computers can do some strange things i have left a couple of messages on here that were there one day and gone the next. I could not imagine not having a computer now they are something you get very used to. I am trying to teach my husband how to use the computer but he is hopeless he likes looking at things on the internet he is a mad fisherman and he always looks at the fishing report but i have to sit with him and get each page up he reckons he does not need to learn as he has me. Men, what would they do without us. I hope you get this i am going to put a picture of Lola and her kittens on my blog now i hope it works. Talk to you again soon.
