Sue, I've done fabric swaps in two ways - fat quarters and 6 inch sqares. Both were by style, either a certain holiday or florals or batiks or plaids, etc. I don't want to do fat quarters again but might be interested in doing sqares maybe 5 or 6 inch or even 4 inch if that's what others wanted to do. We used to swap 3 different squares for each person who signed up. So if 10 people signed up each person would cut 30 sqares (10 from each of 3 different fabrics) to swap. Anyone else have any ideas?? Ive been packing up my fabric but I haven't packed Halloween or Christmas fabric yet!! So I'll wait till I find out what happens with this!!
This is what I was thinking we could do, but most not of explained it correctly. So if for example we do Halloween and 5 in. squares, that would make a great scrappy table runner for whatever holiday we decide. With 5 in. squares, that is enough to cut in half and have some triangles for whatever design you would like to do. It would be very interesting to see what ever one would do with it.
Oh what a great idea! I know it is the wrong time of the year but I have seen many beautiful charm quilts done with florals. Today in my night class some women had exchanged "veggie" fabrics and made quilts putting the veggies on point in attic windows - so they looked like old country store bins, but I think their blocks were 8 inch.
Thanksgiving fabric would be a good start, because it is far enough away that we would get our fat quarters together and mail them to the organizer. And even make something in time for the holiday. It would be great to see the table runner on everyones table for Thanksgiving.
So that do you think, let me know so we each get enough fat quarters.
I think this would be a great idea and something I might be interested in sometime in the future. I'm afraid right now I'm really busy and my fabrics are all packed so it wouldn't be a good time for me. Maybe if I get settled and unpacked before Christmas time???
Hey everyone - I think if we agree on a Halloween fabric exchange and everyone plays we can have a great charm quilt before Oct. What do you say? Should we do this?
you are so right!! LOL...we never did pursue this one!! AND SUE................................WHERE ARE YOU???????
Well, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas have come and gone. Spring is almost here! My fabrics are still packed away, but I think I could find some to swap if everyone were interested in swapping 5" squares of pastels or maybe florals. Something springy!! Anyone else interested???
This would be great, I would love to do this.
I am in, lets swap florals! 5", squares five for each person in the group?
I'm in.... now do we need a host? Or do we want to just mail them ourselves to each person?
Great idea, how will this all work.
I will host but I think we need more peeps! Come on gals you must have florals you want to share!
LOL....well show me one person who doesn't have florals....and I'll show ya a person that doesn't have a stash!
Count me in.....
Come out come out where ever you are - we need to trade some florals.
Can a "newbie" be counted in? If so, count me in.
And sure! We love newbies! we all were a newbie once! Welcome!
We love newbies.
Ok, so far I think we have 4 peeps, or is it 5? my eyes are blurry, I will have to count tomorrow. If there are so few of us, maybe we should trade floral fat quarters?
Or we could trade more of the 5" squares, 10 or 12 for each person instead of 5. I was thinking of a future scrappy floral quilt!

It's good to see you! How is the house coming along? You guys have really been busy. I have not looked in on the pictures lately. But when I did things were really shaping up! Must be exciting. And with spring coming, you can jump out side and see what will flower...
I pop in quite frequently and read posts, just don't write a lot. Been busy of course, but not always with the house. It's coming along, but slower than we'd like. With better weather here I'm anxious to get out and do some yard work, cleaning up, putting in a garden, planting flowers, etc. Not sure how much I'll be able to do because of my hip, but I'm going to schedule another cortisone shot soon and that will help. I've been sewing quite a bit, tackling my UFOs (which was one of my resolutions this year) and have finished 4 tops including the jewel box swap blocks, and almost done with a 5th (a log cabin). I've also been busy planning a vacation with my 2 quilting friends in the fall. Also, getting some teaching jobs lined up. Going to my first guild meeting up here tomorrow in the Soo. Some of the women there want me to teach a class. I'm even thinking about planning a quilting retreat for sometime this summer. What's up with you? Making any new quilts lately?
Mostly baby quilts that's about it. Just taking it easy this winter. Lots of pain with the seasonal changes. Love the sunny days we have been having! Disability sounds like it will go through. We are trying to get it dated to the last 4 years. FMS and CFS played a big part in my last job. So we are hoping the judge grants us an additional two years. Other than that, not a lot going on. I have not seen Betty much this winter. She is busy with Matt getting ready to graduate this May and they have been looking for a good college for him to attend. Jim starts a new Job on Monday. Not much pay, but the company he worked for is probably going under here real soon. It's been a year since he has been working and he is stressed out big time. So I am hoping that this job works out for him. I'm sure they will like him. He is hard working and after 14 years he only missed one or two days! I'm not going to know how to act with him gone! And the cats are really going to miss him. I just may get more sewing done! System shock! Big time! LOL......can't wit for the floral exchange.......
.... where R we on this?
I read that the deadline was today, 3-31-10. I hope that we will proceed even if there is only a few of us. A table runner would still be nice with summer coming up. OK KIMMIE, where are you?!?! I am a little anxious to do something with a group here. Is there any other active groups? All the groups I see are dated last year and no activity. I am still learning this site and any help would be appreciated.
So, we have Sue, Kimmie, me, you, and Nora (Memaw). Cheryl expressed some interest a while back, but haven't seen a definite yes from her. I'm going to post a comment in the "numbers" thread and see if Cheryl, Judy or anyone else might be interested before we close. If not, then let's continue with just the 5 of us! It's been really slow on here lately and I am guilty of not being around much. I do have another idea though... what would you think of swapping 10" floral squares? That way, if anyone wants 5", they can cut it into 4 and if anyone wanted to use them for a pattern with larger pieces, it would give us a larger square to cut from. Then maybe 3 different florals to each person in the swap? Kimmie, are you still wanting to host the swap? We need to decide on a due date. Do we want to limit the colors or just swap any colored florals??
I like your idea, its got my vote. I hope we hear about it soon. I just love doing things like this. Everyone elses selections always seem to look better. Its like cooking. You can made the exact same thing as someone else, but theirs always tastes better. Go figure.
I looked on the memebers list and there are only three besides myself. But Sue thinks there might be 6 altogther. So today is April 2nd. If everyone interested can join the member list by April 10th (that is just over a week away) Then I will stop the count and send each of you my address. It sounds like 3 - 10 inche squares per person is the standard. I am ok with any color as long as it is a floral - not a tiny print with flowers - such as no civil war era, no 30's reproductions and know that some of us will cut them into 5 inch squares maybe nothing too large in print. Have a great Easter everyone. K
Looking forward to it! I'll be out of town all of next week so setting an April 10 deadline for signing up is great. Then we should set another deadline for sending??? Shouldn't take too long, but maybe a couple weeks in case anyone needs to shop before they cut. And shall we say all fabric to be prewashed? Everyone have a happy easter!!
Kimmie - I agree with your suggestion of Apr 10 and the 3-10" squares. Can't wait to begin. Happy Easter to all.
I'm in......anything is good for me.....just let me know and I will keep checking in ...FUN!
