This is all made of Crown Royal bags, except for the background and backing
Would love to know more about this quilt

I don't know what Crown Royal bags are. I'm afraid to ask, like it maybe a stupid question. The gold is pretty. How big are the blocks? Is this for someone special? I love to know the stories behind the quilts, it makes them come alive.

crown royal quilt

Hi Sue!  I made this quilt for a friend that my husband has known for years.  They camp every year in the woods in Arkansas to deer hunt.  I have been almost every year since I have been married.  We were talking one day about my interest in quilting, and he told me he had saved the purple Crown Royal Bags for years.  He gave them to me and I made this quilt for him.  He just found out this year he has lymphoma and has been taking chemo.  I wanted to do something special for him, because he is a very nice person. I cut the front of the bags and fused them to the square which is about 10 inches square.  The purple sashing is also made from the rest of the bags.  The backing is also purple but not made of the bags.  Thank you for your interest.  I do enjoy this website.

This is by far the nicest crown quilt I've seen. What do you mean you fused them to the square? What did you use to do the fusing? The fabric in between the blocks is that your sashing? Sorry I don't know what I'm doing yet. But want to make a crown quilt for my grandson. If you have a pattern or any suggestions ,please and thank you. My best to your husband.

Sue...

Crown Royal bags are the purple bag that Crown Royal - a brand of whiskey, comes in.

I love purple

Wow, this is stunning and a great way to recycle.  Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Arlene

Hi Arlene,

Thank you for the comment.  It was time consuming cutting out all of the bags, and I didn't really have a pattern to follow.  It's pretty basic.   But I enjoyed making it.  My challenge was quilting it myself, as I dont have a longarm.  It's pretty heavy with the bags being felt.  But now that I'm done I can focus on a quilt for my mother that I"ve had in my mind for a while.

Happy Quilting!

Lee Ann

Touched my heart

What a wonderful idea for a very special friend. You really used your design skills to put this together. Great idea. Sending my best for the receiver of the quilt, in hopes he gets better really fast.

Old Man of the Camp

Thank you, Sue.

His name is Lonnie, and he'd probably be embarrassed if he knew I was writing about him.  My husband has known him since he was little.  You see, Lonnie used to hunt with Steve's dad.  So he's pretty special to my husband.  He's the oldest member of the "camp".  since the other older men have died.  So when we found out this year that Lonnie was ill, well it broke our hearts.  We spent time with him this last deer season, and I could see how worn out he looked. He's always been so nice to me, and Steve is very special to him.  Making the quilt for him was the only thing I felt I could do to show him how special he is to Steve and me.

Thank you for your sweet reply, and I will let him know others are thinking about him too.

Very grateful,

Lee Ann

A toast!

I don't want to sound morbid or rude, But if you gave me this quilt, I would BE MOST HONORED if it were draped on my casket and everyone had a shot of Royal at my funeral......just a thought........but I pray this buddy has many more years to deer hunt! Very thoughtful gift.......I'm sure he will love it.

You are truly sweet!

Oh, thank you Meemaw!  You are truly sweet!  And it's not morbid or rude. Do you want to know my thought?  I think that I have been putting off finishing this quilt because I"m afraid.  I know that sounds silly.

Thank you for your prayers for Lonnie.  And I hope that he is honored, because that is why I'm doing this.

Here's a toast to Lonnie....

I think that this is awesome that you've done this quilt for him, and be glad that you haven't put it off any longer, because you'll get to enjoy the LOVE you see in his eyes when you bestow this royal quilt upon him!!   And you aren't silly for feeling that way, it's hard to see the people we care about taking a turn for the worse!!  It breaks our hearts also, and my prayers are with him and you and Steve also!!!  Cheryl

Thank you

Thank you, Cheryl, for your words and your heart.  You are all, very special people.

Thank you all! Here's to Lonnie, your love for people but most of all, your love of God!

Lee Ann,

When is Lonnie getting his quilt? I am sure he will love it! Can't wait to hear about it........

What a great idea for a quilt!

I love the idea and the quilt is really nice.  It's amazing to see new ideas like this.  This is great! I know he will love it and it will be very special to him.

Quilt was sent today

Thank you so much Arlene!  The quilt was sent to Lonnie special delivery today.  Unfortunately, I had to mail it in a large box with a special note.  I would love to see his eyes light up when he receives it, but, sadly, I am not able to travel to Arkansas anytime soon because of my job.  I'm sure Steve and I will hear from him as soon as Lonnie receives the package.  I will let you all know.  By the way, I so appreciate the prayers and well wishes and "toasts" for him from all of you!  He will definitely know the love of this quilt and the love of people that have shared in it.  After all, ya'll saw it and knew about it before Lonnie did! You all are great!

We will be waiting to hear

Please let us know what he says about your quilt. This should be a wonderful surprise for him. A true friend.

Hi LeeAnn,
