We want to encourage Loes and her daughter Nina, who live in the Netherlands.  Loes has told us a bit about her daughter and the special needs she has.   Anyone who would like to encourage this little girl is invited to make a block that has fun fabrics for Nina.  She likes fairies, butterflies, horses, and flowers.  etc.  Loes says Nina likes pinks and blues.  We are trying to get this quilt completed for Nina's June 28th birthday.  Cheryl has volunteered her services for quilting. (thank you) For more information about Nina....you can look for a Blog posted by Loes.

Instructions:

Construct a 12 .5 inch block., pick any colors and fabrics that you think Nina may enjoy

You may construct as many blocks as you would like

Please prewash fabric

Press block when you finish it

Please sign your blocks (being careful to allow room for seam allowance)  We want Loes to know which block was made by whom.  (Yes...even Mike needs to sign...even though his block might be obvious!---kidding Mike)

Please complete blocks by May 20th or sooner As you complete your blocks, you send Cheryl ; a private message or email  asking for her address.  She will then respond as she sees the names that she is familiar with from AOQ.

You might remember a few posts back, where I put balloons into one of the blog posts, wishing a happy birthday to ... I think it was Joyce ... and someone thought it was a block for Nina's quilt.....well....here is a real block for Nina's quilt...the balloons!  Hope she'll like them!!

I have finished my block for Nina. This was fun to do, finding just the right fabric. This is square even if the picture does not show it, it would not lay flat on the table. I should of ironed it one more time. I will get it in the mail today.

I took 2 pictures, because for some reason one came out darker than the other.

A great project and going to a little girl that will love this quilt forever, I'm sure.

Mike did his block, he will post it and tell you all about it.. He really did enjoy making it.  Also very pleased how it turned out.

Now my goal today is to make mine, and I will put it in the mail tomorrow. At least I have the best intensions.

Finished Product

Well on my Birthday I got my first taste of quilting....  As you can see I did all the work, but I SCREWED UP MY BUTTING of the seems (bottom image)!  I also fussed cut the center as the users here said I should!  My end block was 1/8 to big, so it may have to be trimmed.  I was very surprised, it was not painful and actually had some fun with my Mom!  I was dreading it so Much!

Well I am no longer a outsider.  I am a pro-quilter.  I will be giving lessons every few days from now on!

Here is one of Nina's vintage blocks. This is the only one I could find to fussy cut. It's so cute, just like our little pooker. (nickname when I was 5or6).

Sunday the 26th

here is another. I didn't know I had so many little kids prints........It is kinda hard to part with the bears....My Name on most of my sites is Mamabear or hugabear3......so I collect a lot of bears and fabric with bears. So I am very happy to be sharing my bear prints with a very special "bear", a new friend......here's bear hugg'in ya Nina!

TIME TO CELEBRATE ~~~~

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The first of Nina's blocks arrived today!!!  I received the two from Judy~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  And let me just say that pictures do these blocks NO JUSTICE.....They are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my block for Nina.  Nothing fancy obviously, but cheerful I think.  Can anyone give me any ideas how to hand applique around the edges?  It is fused to the block, but I would like to add hand stitching to the edges.  I have seen websites on the blanket stitch or button hole stitch.  Any suggestions?

Great idea, I think I will use bright colors with childrens print. That should make a very happy quilt.
