I saw a picture of this quilt in a Quilt magazine from 2000. Yes, I kept the magazine that long!! Silly me!! I managed to locate Kathee through Google, and asked a few questions..like how do you do this??? She was nice enough to email me back, and gave me the hints that I needed to get this quilt done. I am making this for my son's 'Jack and Jill' shower. It hasn't taken that long (well if you don't count the nights I sewed until midnight or later). I showed it off today to the bride and groom to be - and a few family members....we will raffle this off at the shower. They sort of said..mom you want to give this away???This has been so much fun to do, truly a labor of love (wait a minute - I already labored for this kid 27 years ago!!!) I am pumped - I have torn apart the sewing room, and have a plan to reorganize - and WEED OUT the craft stuff that I don't use anymore...like the rubber stamps, scrapbooking (kid is 33, got up to his 3rd birthday, and there are 4 other kids - ) the Santa's. snowmen...doll clothes....grrrr - too many crafts- too little time!!)
Happy quilting!!

What a nice quilt, AND you're going to auction it off?????????????????? I've never heard of that before at a shower.....details please Jan???? (I just like to know things!!) and what is a Jack and Jill shower????? You really did a beautiful job on the quilt!! I'm with you, and going to clean out all the other crafts!!!!
Hi!, yes I offered to do a quilt as a raffle prize. A Jack and Jill is a BIG 'everybody' party. Instead of the traditional bridal shower and stag party, we have a combined party. Both the kids have homes, so they have 2 of everything! So no sense in having the traditional stuff....although since the bride to be is the first in her family to get married, we had a small shower. It was cute - to help her transition from a last name that begins with S to one that begins with P, we had to bring things (practical or not) that began with the letter P. My son's comment on giving the quilt was ' you want to give this away?' Hopefully we can sell lots of tickets, and make them some good money!! They are great kids and so worth the project!!! Wedding will be in the Hampton's on Long Island NY. Have a great day!!
I have never heard of doing a shower like this either. Then raffle off a quilt at it, it sounds like fun. Let us know how much money the kids got from all your work. A great mom.
it's so pleasing color wise.......I really like it......one great way to use those scraps up!
let us know what the kids get - it is a great idea!
So - that is the question.... I have a friend that has a long arm machine and has a quilting studio - but another said that tying keeps the quilt softer....I have not had my other quilts machine done - not that I have made a ton either!!! So - should I tie......or spend the $95 to have it machine quilted??? H E L P !!!!!

I have tied quilts when I first started. You need the right batting, or when it is washed the batting will ball up. So the once I did years ago I can not wash them anymore. Live and learn.
Very pretty. What a great use of scraps.
