Thank you for the invite, Judy. I've been reading thru the messages, what a wonderful group! Your quilts are amazing! I thought I was doing quite well making a quilt for each of my five siblings' 50th birthdays.  Since then, though, I've not sewn a thing. Perhaps this group will get me motivated enough to get away from the computer and move into the sewing room. I think I'll make a table runner first. That should get the old quilting juices flowing.

Happy Birthday!

JerseyGirl-45

Thank you for allowing me to be your friend,  I read one of your messages about the basket and flowers from a quilt magazine that you really liked in a store.  If you still can not find it.  Please send me a message. I am going to Quilt Odysee show in Hershey (July). There is a vendor that sells many quilt magazines.  Previous issues as well as new.  I can look for the magazine  if you would like And if by chance I can find it , I can mail it to you, I have taken some classes as well.   In Hershey I am scheduled for classes: hand quilting, a table runner,an a honey bee wall hanging.  I also am doing some lectures.  I love listening and looking at all of the quilts some of the ladies have collected.  The history of the quilts are amazing.

GASPPPP.... a garage sale for fabric?????   never!!   But I did find a great garage sale once with lots of fabric.  The woman's mother had died and they were selling all her craft stuff.   What a GREAT sale!  Tables piled high with fabric.   My husband was with me and we bought a big trash bag full of fabric and another bag full of thread.  I was picking out some spools of thread and my husband asked, how much for all of it?  The lady said $3, so he said, bring us a bag!  There were about 120 spools of every color of thread except white or beige.   I'll never use all that thread!  The woman had worked at JoAnn's so had a LOT of craft stuff.  I bought about 18 yards of Christmas fabric with red cardinals, pine trees, and bluebirds, on the bolt for $2.  LOVED it!!

Thanks for inviting me!! I can relate to what your wrote about yourself!!!  I learned to do hand quilting 3 years ago and now ready to give machine quilting a go so I can attempt to finish all the quits I start!!  I have about 3 quilt tops waiting to quilt now and one I need to finish.  I love to hand quilt. Its very soothing. I quilt in my sewing room while watching old movie really old movies  on DVD or on Turner Classic Movies channel.

Judy, thanks for the invite to be a bud. I like reading about you profile. I can relate to that. I too would like to live to be longer due to there is never enough time in the day to do everything. It is good to see you have a sense of humor. This is a great site to have some fun and learn a few things. I love the quilts that you have done. You put me to shame....Thanks again for the invite and Welcome. Happy Quilting Betty Boop the Boopmeister

Hi Judy.  I enjoyed reading your greeting.  I too am hooked.  And I'm right there with you living to be 500 to do all the quilts I want to do.  My husband said I should have a garage sale of all the fabric I have.  I said, "Now why would I want to do that". :-)

Hi June.....I had to laugh. I recently went to a quilt shop to find a certain shade of fabric that I only needed a tiny bit of. The shop owner wanted to know if I wanted her to measure my quilt to figure out exactly how much I needed for a 3/4 inch border all the way around. I said. "no...just give me a yard." She said...but that is so much more than you will need. My response was, "a quilter always needs fabric." Tell your husband NO GARAGE SALE! unless he has some things laying around that he needs to sell!! :)

Summer Exchange Jewel Tones is Over. Blocks are being mailed

in

I am hoping not to anger anyone with this blog.  The Summer Jewel Tone exchange was to end on September 30th.    As of Nov. 1st, I have all the sets but two sets.   I realize we all have busy schedules and unforseen circumstances arise, but three of our members did this exchange hoping to use these blocks for a holiday gift.  If I have no objections or receive no word, the blocks I currently have will be mailed out Wedensday morning.  This also means you will receive back one or two of your own blocks.   Thank you.

Turtle Trouble

in

I am trying to find some paper pieced turtle patterns.  The girl from Indiana.....whom I adore......loves turtles. I am having trouble finding some links to some free patterns.  I have one from  Paper Panache. I think I should make this girl a quilt.  PLUS she has asked me to teach her to quilt!  I am hoping to have a Turtle quilt under the tree for her this Christmas.  Won't be two turtle doves....but it could still be turtles!

Hi.  If I am not mistaken, one year ago today was the first post on this site.   Sue and I were chatting one day in the chat room, and I believe she told me that the first post was on Aug. 13, 2008.    I marked it on my calendar so that I could remember.

So a HUGE thank you, to the creator MadMan.....and another HUGE thanks to the inspiration behind the site.  Sue.  And to Wendi.....thanks for sharing Mike with all of us.

Karen Grassle (Ma Ingalls)

On Sunday, my husband and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary.  We went to Genesee Country Museum, which is a museum of historic houses.  They do lots of activities.  Wendi does some of her civil war re-enactment there.    Anyhow......they had Karen Grassle there, the actress who played Ma Ingalls.  She gave a talk, and answered audience questions. It was fun.  Thought you guys might like to see how she looks now.  I loved and still love watching Little House on the Prairie.

Graduation Quilt 2010

This surprise quilt will be for my son Benjamin who graduates in June 2010.  My plan is to put this quilt out at the party for all of his friends and family to sign their names or leave him messages.  I tried to leave lots of white areas for that.   It is a twin size quilt that was machine quilted (which I am HORRIBLE at.)  I am going to buy a few different size quilt pens in maybe two colors for everyone to sign with.    Now just to keep this quilt out of site for one year.  I DO like to finish things early.

These pictures represent the fouth quilt block exchange.   I have done 12 blocks so far.   I am going to make this quilt for my husband for Christmas.  I am going to need lots more after the exchange, so I have done/and will do more.    Hubby is 6'6"  so it needs to be big enough for him to cover up on those cold winter afternoons.

My Credit Card "Emergency"

100_0198.JPG

This is no fancy quilt work......just a panel that I machine quilted.  It is made from flannel so it is oh so soft!!  We don't use our credit card except for emergencies.  Back in Novemeber I was in a quilt class, and I saw this panel.  I fell in love with it!!   I didn't have enough money to buy it, and it was the last one in the store!!  So I whipped out my credit card and bought it.  I worried on the way home that this "credit card emergency" wouldn't quite be the kind of emergency my husband would agree to.  But I got home told him

This is a UFO started about ten years ago and finished this week.   My son, who must have been about 9, picked the pattern, and the fabric.  If I had to do it again, I would most certainly do it differently.  Lots of seams don't match...and I think I would have added one more fabric.  It is a nice testament to how my piecing skills have improved in the past ten years!!  Also, how what I let go then, I would redo now.   It is all hand quilted and fits a twin sized bed.

This quilt was a UFO completed this week.  I took the class back in December 08.  Still needed to attach bird to quilt and all the leaves,.  It is a Petal Play pattern.    I have made some smaller back grounds for this bird.  But it looks nice.  It is  a wall hanging.

Wow.....the photo doesn't look great with all the stripes in this quilt.   This is the OLD FABRIC quilt that I have told you about.  The pieces of this quilt came from an elderly lady's attic.  All of the pieces were cut out...and some blocks sewn together into blocks.   A friend of mine hired me to make her a king sized quilt.  We ended up making four quilts from what the lady had.  This was one of my "payments" for doing the quilt for my friend.  As another friend and I tyed the quilt this past week, she just kept saying how much

Each of the letters for Nina's name are done using paper piecing.  Then just added some colorful borders to bring it up to the correct size.
